Abstract

The population growth of Kendari City, which reaches 1.93% per year, has caused a significant increase in housing demand, triggering pressure on land availability, and potentially reducing Green Open Space (RTH). As a response to this land crisis, vertical housing (apartments) has become an urgent solution. This study aims to plan and design apartments in Kendari City by implementing Biophilic Architecture, a design approach that integrates natural elements into the built environment to improve human health, well-being, and productivity. The research methods used are exploratory, descriptive, and analytical. The site location was chosen in the western part of Kendari City (Kambu District), in line with government directives for vertical development. The implementation of biophilic design includes Green Facade, Green Roof, Inner Courtyard, water elements, and natural ventilation/lighting systems. As a result, this design produces a vertical housing prototype that not only overcomes land limitations, but also creates a healthy, energy-efficient environment (reducing the need for air conditioning and artificial lighting), and supports a more sustainable city.
